When: upper Member (Starlight Formation), Hemphillian (10.3 - 4.9 Ma)

• said to be early Hemphillian

•"most of the identifiable fossils... were found" in a "2-2.5 m thick brown clay unit" in the upper member

•immediately overlying "0.6 - 1.3 m thick brilliant white ash" dated at "8.14 +/- 0.34 Ma" by SCLF Ar/Ar on plagioclase

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: fluvial-lacustrine; volcaniclastic, brown, silty claystone

• "a low energy fluvial and/or lacustrine environment"
